If you want to buy rap instrumentals online, you should learn how to assess hip hop beats. By training yourself on what you should listen for, you can make more informed decisions beyond merely picking a beat based on what sounds good to you. Here are some of the elements that you should listen for when assessing hip hop beats.

rap music

  1. The bass line. This is the underlying line played by instruments like the electronic or double bass or the keyboard that sets the rhythm of the beat. It should be catchy in order to catch the ear of the listener as well as working with, rather than clashing with, the recorded drum track.
  2. The orchestration. This refers to the different instruments that are used in making rap instrumentals apart from the bass line and the drum groove. The instruments you may hear include a guitar, violin, horns or anything else that enhances the old school, underground, R&B or gangsta sound of the beat.
  3. Sampling. This refers to a piece of a preexisting recording that is mixed into the beat. Not all beats use sampling although it is common practice in beat-making. If you hear a piece of familiar music, listen to how it enhances the hip hop beat and improves the variety of its sound.
  4. Effects. One way that beat makers enhance the sound of their beats is by using aural effects. These effects may include things like reverb or compression, which are used by producers to create a specific feeling in the beat. To familiarize yourself with the different types of effects as well as how they shape the character of the beat, you can experiment with beat making software.
  5. Sound quality. Does the beat sound crystal-clear with no static or poor audio? The beat should have the highest sound quality since you will use it in your projects and a poor-sounding beat will weaken its overall quality.

Before you buy any rap instrumentals you should also be aware of what you are buying. If you want your project to sound 100% original, do not buy non-exclusive beats that anybody can use but invest in exclusive beats, even if you have to pay much more for them. Remember that original and quality hip hop beats will be the foundation of your project, so you should make sure that you are getting the best beat that you can afford to ensure the quality of the finished product.
